A termination bar is the mechanical answer to a problem adhesive alone cannot solve: holding the top edge of an EPDM upstand tight against a wall, permanently.
Wherever a rubber roof turns up to meet brickwork, a parapet, or the side of a building, the membrane is under constant tension trying to peel back down. Adhesive and mastic resist that for a while. Wind uplift, thermal movement and gravity work at it continuously. An aluminium termination bar screwed into the substrate at regular centres removes the question entirely — the membrane is physically clamped, and the sealed top edge is protected behind the bar.
Bars are fixed at roughly 200mm centres with the appropriate anchor for the substrate — masonry plugs into brick or block, self-tappers into timber — and the top edge is then sealed with wall mastic so water cannot track behind. Pair with matching fixings, and see our guide to fitting EPDM roof trims for the full sequence including corners and joints.
