Fitting EPDM does not take many tools, but it is unforgiving about the right ones.

The seam roller is the tool people skip and the tool that decides whether the roof lasts. Contact adhesive bonds under pressure, not over time. A lap that is pressed by hand looks perfect on the day and lifts eighteen months later when the first hard frost gets into it. A roller applies consistent pressure along the whole seam and takes seconds.

Beyond that: a solvent-resistant brush or roller for spreading adhesive evenly, sharp scissors or a slitter for cutting membrane cleanly rather than dragging and stretching it, and a soft brush for getting the deck genuinely clean — because adhesive bonds to dust perfectly well, and dust bonds to timber not at all.
