Description
EPDM doesn't stay perfectly still. Over years of thermal movement a fully-adhered membrane can gradually creep away from an upstand, loosening exactly where the roof needs its seal the most. Adhesive alone resists that pull for a while — a strip that's mechanically fastened as well as bonded resists it for the life of the roof.
This reinforced perimeter fastening strip is a heavier-duty EPDM strip designed to sit under the field membrane at upstands, kerbs and perimeters, welded to the underside of the roof membrane with seam tape primer and then screwed down through fastening plates or a termination bar. Because the fixings go through the reinforcement strip rather than the visible membrane, you get a genuinely mechanical anchor point without a single fastener penetrating the waterproofing layer itself. It's the detail that separates a roof that's merely bonded from one that's properly held down.
Where it's used
Fit it at the base of upstands, parapets, kerbs and any perimeter detail where the membrane is under ongoing tension — anywhere a termination bar or fastening plate is already part of the design. It's equally at home reinforcing a straightforward garden building upstand or the much longer perimeter run on a commercial re-roof, and it pairs naturally with the termination bars, primer and lap sealant already in our range.
Specification
Supplied as a 152mm (6") wide, 30.48m roll of black EPDM strip with a pre-applied bonding tape section running along it. Weld it to the membrane underside using EPDM seam tape primer, then mechanically fasten through the strip at your chosen centres — the reinforcement carries the fixing load so the loads never transfer directly onto the field membrane.
Installation guidance
Prime both the strip and the underside of the membrane at the perimeter with seam tape primer, weld the strip into place, and mechanically fasten it at regular centres using a termination bar or fastening plates and appropriate fixings for your deck substrate. Dress the field membrane back down over the top and finish the top edge in the usual way with your termination detail and lap sealant.
