Description
The light-duty EPDM rubber roofing membrane, cut to size and supplied as one continuous sheet. It is the sensible, economical covering for a garden shed, summerhouse, log cabin or store — a roof you fit once and forget about, in place of felt you would be replacing every few years. Eight widths from 1.40m to 5.00m, cut to any length by the metre, bonded cold with no torch and no flame.
Read this before you order
This membrane is the light-duty grade. It is not intended for buildings that have to comply with Building Regulations, and it cannot be joined with seam tape — so the roof has to be covered by a single sheet. If your project is an extension, a garage, a habitable garden room, or anything wider than 5m, order the 1.2mm membrane instead. We would rather tell you now than after it arrives.
What this membrane is for
On a shed roof this is an excellent covering and the one we would fit ourselves. It is completely waterproof, unaffected by standing water, UV stable, and it will comfortably outlast the building underneath it. What it does not do is carry foot traffic or satisfy a building control officer — and there is no point paying for thickness you do not need on a shed, nor saving money on a roof that has to be signed off.
How the pricing works
Pick a width, then set the quantity to the number of metres of length you need. Every width works out at exactly the same rate per square metre, so there is no penalty for an awkward size. No cutting charge, no minimum order, and the price shown already includes VAT with delivery free.
What size should you order?
Measure the roof deck, then add an allowance on every side so the rubber can dress down over the edges. Allow at least 100mm per side on a simple shed roof, and 150mm if the roof has an upstand, a kerb, or you want the membrane to reach into a gutter. Take the next width up from the list and round the length up to whole metres — or type your exact width and we will take the next one up for you.
Between two widths, always take the larger. Surplus trims off in seconds with a sharp knife; a sheet 50mm short cannot be rescued, and because this membrane cannot be taped there is no way to make up a shortfall.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this on an extension or a garage?
No — use the 1.2mm. This grade is not intended for buildings that must comply with Building Regulations, which covers extensions, most attached garages and habitable garden rooms. On a shed or store it is exactly right.
Why is it not suitable for Building Regulations work?
It is a thinner formulation intended for light-duty garden buildings. For anything that needs building control sign-off, specify the 1.2mm or 1.5mm, which are the grades used on domestic and commercial flat roofs.
Can two pieces be joined with seam tape?
No. This membrane is not compatible with joining tapes, so your roof has to be covered by a single sheet. If the roof is bigger than the largest sheet, use the 1.2mm, which can be taped.
What is the biggest sheet you can supply?
5.00m wide by 20m long, in one piece. Wider than 5m and you need the 1.2mm membrane.
What size should I order?
Your deck size plus at least 100mm on every side for a simple shed roof, or 150mm if there is an upstand, a kerb or a gutter to reach. Take the next width up and round the length to whole metres.
How is it priced?

Will it have a join?
No. Every order is supplied as one continuous sheet at the size you specify.
Is it really waterproof at only 1.0mm?
Completely. Thickness has nothing to do with waterproofing — it buys resistance to punctures and foot traffic. A properly bonded 1.0mm shed roof is as watertight as a 1.5mm commercial roof.
How long will it last on a shed?
A life expectancy of up to 50 years, with a 20-year product guarantee. Realistically it will outlast the shed. Felt on the same roof would need replacing every five to ten years.
What colour is it?
Black. It weathers to a slightly matt finish and does not fade to another colour.
What do I bond it down with?
Water-based deck adhesive across the deck, and bond & seal mastic at the edges and upstands. This grade does not use the contact adhesive system of the thicker membranes.
How much adhesive will I need?
As a rough guide a 5-litre tin of water-based deck adhesive covers around 20 m². Our shed calculator works out the exact quantity for your roof.
Do I need a primer?
No. The adhesive bonds directly to sound timber decking such as OSB or plywood.
Do I need edge trims?
Not necessarily. Many shed roofs are finished by dressing the rubber over the edge and sealing it with mastic. Trims give a crisper finish and protect the edge, and are worth adding where the roof drains into a gutter.
Can I lay it over the old felt?
Only if the felt is fully stuck down, flat, dry and free of mineral chippings. On a shed, stripping back to the boards takes an hour and lets you replace anything soft before you cover it for decades.
What deck can it be bonded to?
Sound timber decking — OSB3, WBP plywood or planed board. Punch nail heads below the surface and fill gaps over 5mm first.
Does the deck need a fall?
A minimum of 1:80 towards the drainage edge is recommended, which is 25mm of drop for every 2m of run. EPDM tolerates standing water, but a roof that drains stays cleaner and lasts longer.
Does it cope with ponding water?
Yes. Standing water does not damage EPDM at any thickness.
Can I walk on it?
Only when you have to, in soft-soled shoes. This grade is not intended for foot traffic — if people will be on the roof, use 1.5mm and fit walkway pads. Never walk on it wet or frosty.
Does the deck have to be dry, and what weather do I need?
Yes, completely dry, on a dry day at 5°C or above with no rain forecast until the adhesive has cured. Water-based adhesive will not bond to damp timber.
Which side goes up?
Membrane of this type is the same on both sides. Just keep the face that touches the deck clean and dust free.
How much maintenance does it need?
Ten minutes a year: clear leaves and debris off the roof and out of the gutter. There is nothing to re-coat, treat or paint.

Cut-to-size membrane cannot be returned once cut, which is why we would rather check your measurements first. Send us the dimensions and a photo before you order.
