This synthetic slate is moulded from recycled rubber and plastic, so it carries roughly a third the weight of stone per square metre while keeping the same flat, riven slate silhouette from the ground.
Each tile interlocks and nail-fixes in the same lapped pattern as a traditional slate roof, so existing roofing skills transfer straight across — the difference is in what you're lifting up the ladder and what the structure underneath has to bear.

How does the weight compare to natural slate? This recycled rubber/plastic composite is significantly lighter per m² than natural stone slate — a genuine advantage on older rafters, extensions and outbuildings where loading is tight, but always check against your actual structural calculations rather than assume.
Will it fade or become brittle in UV? It's manufactured for outdoor roofing use; as with any synthetic roofing material, ask your supplier for the manufacturer's specific UV/weathering warranty period if that's a deciding factor for your job.
Can I mix it with natural slate on the same roof? It's designed to visually read as a slate roof from the ground, but it is not the same material — check the finished appearance against your planning requirements before use on a listed building or in a conservation area.
