Description

Half round and box profile guttering suit most modern roofs, but a Victorian terrace, a listed cottage or a conservation-area extension needs the deep, moulded S-curve of a true ogee profile — the shape cast-iron guttering has carried since the 1800s. This system reproduces that profile in cast/moulded aluminium: the look of heritage ironwork with the weight, corrosion resistance and fixing simplicity of aluminium, so it clears building conservation officers without the maintenance burden of the original material.

Every length, union, bracket, angle and outlet below is a genuine standalone item — buy exactly what your elevation needs rather than a fixed "one size" box. Lengths are supplied in the 1.83m sections standard to the casting process (rather than the 3m extruded lengths used on modern profiles), so measure your run and order accordingly, allowing for a union at every joint.

Key benefits

  • True moulded ogee (Victorian/heritage) profile — visually distinct from half round and box gutter
  • Cast aluminium: won't rust like traditional cast iron, no repainting cycle to maintain a seal
  • Textured Black powder coat as standard, matching the finish used on our half round and box gutter systems
  • Full fittings range — unions, direct fix and rafter brackets, rise-and-fall brackets, 90°/135° angles, 63mm and 76mm outlets, stop ends
  • Suits period property refurbishment, conservation-area and listed-building projects

Installation guidance

Fit brackets at a maximum of 1m centres with a slight fall towards the outlet (around 1:350 to 1:600). Use one union at every length joint — do not butt-joint ogee lengths without a union, as the deep profile relies on the union's seal. Pair with an aluminium downpipe system at each outlet, and if the run also serves a flat-roofed rear extension, our Aluminium Box Gutter System is the matching profile for that section.

FAQs

Can I mix ogee with my existing cast iron guttering?
Ogee aluminium is dimensionally close to traditional cast iron ogee, but always check your existing outlet and union spacing before ordering — original cast iron varies between manufacturers and eras.

Do I need a fall?
Yes — allow roughly 1mm of fall per 350–600mm of run towards the nearest outlet, checked with a spirit level or laser as you fix brackets.

Is this suitable for a listed building?
Aluminium ogee is widely accepted by conservation officers as a like-for-like visual match for cast iron, but always confirm with your local planning/conservation team before ordering, as requirements vary by area.

What colours are available?
We're launching with Textured Black, the standard stocked finish. A wider RAL colour range is available from the same system and will follow as additional listings once each colour's imagery is ready.

How many unions do I need?
One union per joint between lengths, plus a stop end at every open end and an outlet wherever the run discharges to a downpipe.
