Description
Most rooflights are built to be looked through, not stood on. A roof terrace, a glazed floor over a stairwell, or a balcony that needs daylight to reach the room below all need something else entirely — a genuinely load-bearing glass floor that happens to also be a rooflight. Step on a standard fixed rooflight and, at best, you've voided the warranty; this unit is engineered from the ground up to be walked on.
The glass build is a triple-laminated toughened stack — an 8.8.8mm Stratobel Clearlite toughened outer pane bonded through resin interlayers, a 16mm argon-filled cavity, and a 6mm Low-E toughened inner pane — giving a genuinely trafficable, anti-slip surface rather than a standard rooflight pressed into a job it wasn't designed for. It's supplied in two builds: frameless, for a completely flush glass-to-glass finish with no visible edge; and framed, with an anthracite grey aluminium perimeter frame, which is the simpler detail to dress a membrane into on a straightforward upstand.
Where it's used
Specified for roof terraces, walkable balconies, glazed floor panels over stairwells or basements, and any flat roof area that needs to double as usable outdoor space while still bringing daylight into the room beneath. It suits both new-build terraces and refurbishment projects converting an existing flat roof into accessible outdoor space.

Installation guidance
Fit onto a suitably engineered structural opening or upstand rated for foot traffic — this is a heavier, load-bearing unit and the supporting structure needs to be specified accordingly, not just a standard insulated kerb. Dress and bond the EPDM membrane up to the frame or glass edge using EPDM primer and contact adhesive before the glass unit is lifted into place. Given the weight of these units, plan for mechanical lifting rather than a manual lift, and check the structural opening size against the unit's actual dimensions before it arrives on site.
Frequently asked questions
Can I really walk on this, or just the framed edge? Yes — the whole glass surface is engineered as a trafficable, anti-slip floor, not just the frame; that's the difference between this and a standard fixed rooflight.
Frameless or framed — which do I need? Frameless gives a completely flush glass-to-glass look with no visible edge, and suits a more exposed structural detail. Framed has a visible anthracite aluminium perimeter, which is generally the easier, more forgiving detail to dress a membrane into on a standard upstand.
Does it need a special upstand? Yes — because it's load-bearing and considerably heavier than a standard fixed rooflight, the structural opening needs to be engineered for foot traffic loading, not a standard insulated kerb. Check the structural requirement with a suitably qualified engineer before ordering.
What sizes are available? Three fixed sizes per build — 1000×1000mm, 1000×1500mm and 1000×2000mm. Larger or non-standard sizes are not available as a stocked item through this listing.
How is it delivered? These are heavy, made-to-order glass units delivered on a pallet — check site access for a large, heavy delivery before ordering.
Ordering
Order to the actual structural opening size, confirmed against your engineer's specification, not an estimate — these are substantial, made-to-size glass units and errors are costly. Pair with our EPDM membrane, primer and contact adhesive to complete the surrounding waterproofing detail.
