Description

A standing seam roof sheds snow fast, and it rarely does it gently. Once the surface below a snow layer warms even slightly, the whole slab can let go at once and come off the eave as a single sliding sheet — onto a doorway, a car, a conservatory roof, or whoever happens to be underneath. Tiled and slated roofs get some natural grip from their overlaps; a smooth standing seam panel gives snow almost none, which is exactly why snow retention hardware exists for this roof type.

This is a clamp-and-tube snow guard system that fixes directly onto the raised seams of a standing seam metal roof, with no roof penetrations and no drilling through the panel. A row of clamps grips the seam mechanically and carries a round tube across the roof, breaking a sliding snow slab into smaller, manageable amounts that melt and shed gradually instead of all at once. A separate ice guard option (a single tooth-profile stop, no tube required) is also available for lighter-duty or supplementary protection.

Installation guidance

  1. Measure your seam height before ordering — 25mm and 38mm seams take different clamp profiles, and the two are not interchangeable.
  2. Plan clamp spacing along the eave before you start. Snow load varies hugely with roof pitch, altitude and local climate, so there's no single spacing that suits every roof — for anything beyond a straightforward domestic outbuilding, it's worth getting a roofer or structural engineer to confirm spacing and row count for your specific site.
  3. Fit each clamp by hand-tightening the set screws onto the seam first, then check alignment along a chalk line before fully tightening — overtightening can deform the seam profile.
  4. Feed the tube through each clamp's bore and join lengths with the connectors as you go, rather than trying to thread one long run through afterwards.
  5. Ice guards are fitted individually along the seam and don't require a tube — useful where a full clamp-and-tube row isn't practical, or as a secondary lower row beneath a tube system.

FAQs

Will this fit my roof's seam height?
It's made for 25mm and 38mm standing seam profiles, sold as separate variants. Measure the seam height on your roof (the raised fold height, not the panel width) before ordering — if you're not sure which you have, check with whoever supplied or fitted the roofing sheet.

What's the difference between the clamp-and-tube system and the ice guards?
The clamp-and-tube system spans a continuous row across the roof and is the more robust option for holding back a full snow slab. Ice guards are individual stops with no connecting tube — simpler to fit, but each one only holds back the snow directly around it rather than acting as a continuous barrier.

How many clamps or ice guards do I need?
That depends on your roof's length, pitch, and the snow loading typical for your area — there's no universal spacing figure we can honestly give you. The 6m bundle above is sized for one box of 15 clamps across a 6 metre eave as a starting reference point; longer runs or heavier snow areas may need tighter spacing or a second row.

Can I mix ice guards and the clamp-and-tube system on the same roof?
Yes — a common approach is a tube-and-clamp row along the eave with a supplementary row of ice guards further up the slope, or vice versa, depending on where snow tends to build up on your particular roof.

Does fitting this mean drilling through my roof?
No. The clamps grip the standing seam mechanically with set screws — there's no need to penetrate the roof panel itself, which keeps the weatherproofing of the roof intact.
