Description
An unguarded step-over is fine at ground level in a plant room. Put the same platform on a roof, near an edge, or anywhere a slip has somewhere to go, and the risk assessment changes. This is the same crossover with handrails on both sides, so the person using it has something to hold and something to stop them going sideways.
Everything is glass-reinforced polyester, including the handrail tube. That matters on a roof more than it does indoors: nothing rusts, nothing needs repainting, and there is no galvanic risk where it stands against aluminium flashings, zinc details or a single-ply membrane. It also stays light enough to reposition when plant moves.

Frequently asked
How is this different from the unguarded version?
Same deck, same clearance, same construction. The difference is the two 1100mm handrail assemblies. If the crossing is in the open middle of a roof and rarely used, the standard step-over platform is usually enough and comes in seventeen sizes. If it is near an edge, used often, or named in a method statement, choose this one.
Does it need fixing down?
No. It is free-standing at approximately 70kg and sits on the roof surface, which suits single-ply and rubber membranes where penetrations are best avoided. On an exposed roof, position it against an upstand or plant base where wind uplift is a concern.
Will it mark an EPDM or single-ply membrane?
The legs bear on the covering, so on a new or soft roof set it on protection pads. Our EPDM rubber walkway pads spread the load under the leg positions.
Can the handrails be removed later?
The handrail sections are bolted rather than bonded, so they can be taken off if the crossing is relocated somewhere they are not needed. Keep the fixings.
What about the approach either side?
Define the whole route rather than just the crossing. Our PVC roof walkway matting forms the run in and out, and where services sit on the roof rather than crossing it, non-penetrating rooftop support frames carry them clear of the covering.
