Description
Roofs are rarely one level. A plant platform sits proud of the main deck, an upstand runs across the route to a rooflight, a lower roof meets a higher one at a threshold nobody designed to be stepped over. People deal with those the same way every time, which is to climb, and that is how ankles get turned and membranes get scuffed.
This is a two-tread step unit that solves it without becoming a permanent installation. It stands where it is needed, gets moved when the work moves, and because it is glass-reinforced polyester rather than steel or aluminium it can be left outdoors indefinitely without rusting, repainting, or reacting against the aluminium and zinc details around it.

Frequently asked
Is it a step or a ladder?
A step unit. Two treads, 430mm to the top, wide enough to stand square on rather than balance. If you need to reach a genuinely high level, this is the wrong product and a fixed ladder is the right one.
Will it mark an EPDM or single-ply membrane?
At around 28kg it is far lighter than a step-over platform, but it still bears through its frame. On a new or soft roof set it on protection pads. Our EPDM rubber walkway pads work well underneath.
Can it be left outside?
Yes. GRP is unaffected by rain, frost and UV. Unlike a steel or galvanised unit it will not rust where it gets knocked in handling, which is what usually starts the corrosion on painted access equipment.
Is it slippery in the wet?
The treads are gritted open mesh, so water drains through rather than sitting on the surface. It behaves well wet, and needs the same care as anything else in genuine ice.
What if the obstruction is a pipe rather than a level change?
Then you want a crossover rather than a step. Our GRP step-over access platform covers pipe runs up to 200mm, and the tall-clearance version handles lagged runs up to 300mm.
Ordering
Supplied as a single assembled unit, 996 x 630 x 430mm. Handrails are not fitted to this model. Where the step sits near a roof edge or the climb needs guarding, the handrailed step-over platform is the safer specification. For a different width or tread height, contact us before ordering.
